Ink dropper: What do you do when you upgrade your Notebook software and the ink dropper doesn’t work?

By Jo

The ink dropper function in SMART Notebook software is fantastic. It allows to you colour match almost any colour. Below is a 53 second video explaining how it works:

However, when you upgrade your software from an older Notebook version, your ink dropper may not work. If this happens you need to adjust the colour mode from 16bit to 32bit.

Error with PPT and SMART Notebook software

By Jo

This may be of interest to secondary teachers/students who need to add notes to PPT presentations and who run SMART Notebook software. If you try to type notes in a PPT and you are running both programs it will not allow you to. There is an error between Notebook and PPT which SMART technologies are aware of.

To fix this problem you need to exit the SMART tools software by going to the icon in your system tray, right clicking and choose exit. For more information follow the link below:

A ‘smart’ way to mount your smartboard

By Jo

Larry Spry and maintenance staff from Rostrevor College in South Australia came up with a smart way to mount a smartboard, they built a box which is attached to the wall. The box allowed the smartboard to be positioned at the front of the room with all the cabling tucked neatly inside. This provided easy access for students to the smartboard without having to reach over pre-existing fixed furniture. It reduced costs in terms of not having to pull out and replace the pre-existing furniture to allow access for students. Furthermore, it also reduced movement of the board and the need for constant realignment which often occurs if a smartboard is mounted on an existing white board.

IWBNet Solutions Conference Sydney

By Jo

The 2 day conference was a success with many SMARTboard sessions presented for teachers. Sessions were modified throughout the day to tailor to teachers needs. It was evident that most schools already had IWBs and interactive SMART schools were looking to upgrade/or purchase more SMARTboards and view the possibilities of the SMART Student Response Systems (clickers). The SMART board pictured below was used on the stand, it is an old SB400 series and was used for software discussions with particular interest in the SMART Maths Tools, an add on feature.

Please note that SMART have new dual touch interactive boards which are available. They have similar functionalities of the boards which were on display throughout the foyer. I have inserted a video demonstration of the new 800 series SMART boards, unfortunately I couldn’t show you one.

Thank you to SMART in the UK for providing SMART product fliers, SMART pens and SMART bags to hand out to teachers. They were appreciated.
